Behind the Scenes of OSB Manufacturing

December 15, 2014 in Wood Products - #OSB&Panels

The OSB manufacturing process has long been a mystery to many. Unless you live close to one of our six OSB manufacturing facilities, the opportunity to participate in a guided tour of the mill is pretty farfetched. But what exactly happens from the time raw logs enter the yard to when they exit the facility as engineered OSB panels and head to the jobsite? Why do we debark the logs and what do we do with all those chips? Is there a science behind controlling strand thickness? The balance of safely working together with so many moving parts was hard to compile under seven minutes. However, with through the narration of Bob Olson, OSB Engineering and Technical Director, we’re able to get an inclusive snapshot on the quality that goes into manufacturing Weyerhaeuser’s premium OSB panels.
