Here’s an interesting story out of West Virginia. WVU fans should hope to see a lot of this platform this season, because on it the University’s Mountaineer mascot does a push-up for each point scored. Click below to learn how the platform came to be and how Weyerhaeuser is connected. Spolier alert: locally produced Parallam PSL!
Weyerhaeuser Software Support and Training are pleased to bring you the Javelin Informant, our quarterly e-newsletter especially designed for our Javelin software users. Users can now read up on the latest software tips and tricks, and also stay current on upcoming Javelin training webinars being provided by our staff of software trainers. These newsletters are produced each quarter based on the most relevant topics of the day along with feedback from the actual end-users themselves!
In a matter of minutes, readers can pick out valuable lessons for using Javelin to their advantage during the drawing process. The goal of the Javelin Informant is two-fold. We want to bring awareness to what Javelin software can do in quick digestible chunks, while also bringing increased efficiency to our user base. We realize that as business picks up for our dealers, that can constrain the time allowed for our users continued education. That is why we believe the Javelin Informant is such a valuable tool for getting information into their hands without slowing up their production time.
Weyerhaeuser continues to grow its distribution business with the introduction of the full line of James Hardie® fiber cement siding and trim products to the South Texas market. The company will initiate distribution of James Hardie products on July 1 at its Houston distribution center to customers throughout South and Central Texas. Weyerhaeuser now offers James Hardie products in the majority of its distribution markets across the U.S.
“As the housing market improves, our building products distribution business is continuing to experience strong growth,” said Nate Jorgensen, vice president of Weyerhaeuser Distribution. “In many of the markets we serve across the U.S. we’ve added new products and extended offerings from manufacturers we already supply. We’ve worked with James Hardie for many years and are pleased to extend our offerings of its siding and trim to more customers.”
Weyerhaeuser’s Parallam® Plus Deck Beam Sizer app is now available for use on Android devices. The easy-to-use app helps deck builders and advanced DIYers design strong, stable decks by providing an easy way to determine the correct Trus Joist® Parallam Plus PSL beam for each project.
The Deck Beam Sizer app enables users to specify the size and loading of decks with only three simple inputs to find the correct beam size. The app then emails the user proper documentation for issuing to the local building department. For complex decks requiring additional design assistance, the builder can connect to Weyerhaeuser technical support with just a few clicks within the app.
Weyerhaeuser manufactures a wide variety of Trus Joist Engineered Wood Products that are used for rim board applications. It can get quite confusing deciding which one to use with all the thicknesses available. In fact, there are a possible 6 different thicknesses to choose from. The two primary reasons for the differences in thickness are load capacity and sufficient width on the edge to accommodate nailing from shear walls and the floor diaphragm above.
In this article, Jim Anderson, P.E., engineer for Weyerhaeuser supporting Trus Joist Engineered Wood Products, discusses each option in full detail.
